Bolt Type Anchor Shackle

No.701003

The Bolt Type Anchor Shackle, also known as a Safety Bow Shackle, combines multi-directional loading capabilities with a highly secure triple-locking mechanism, making it the safest choice for permanent installations, overhead lifting, and high-vibration environments.

  • Triple-Lock Security: Utilizes a superior three-part fastening system to ensure maximum reliability over standard screw-pin shackles.
  • Threadless Bolt: Features a solid, unthreaded bolt body that does not rely on inner ear threads to bear or hold the load.
  • Hex Nut Securing: Employs a heavy-duty hex nut tightened directly onto the bolt end to firmly lock the assembly in place.
  • Cotter Pin Protection: Includes a stainless steel or galvanized split pin inserted through the bolt to prevent the nut from backing off due to vibration.

Bolt Type Anchor Shackle (Safety Bow Shackle)

G2130 Type, Drop Forged with Triple Safety Lock
G2130 Type Bolt & Cotter Pin 0.5T - 150T WLL Permanent Installations

Product Features

  • Maximum Safety (Triple Lock): Features a bolt, nut, and stainless steel cotter pin (split pin) mechanism. This ensures the pin cannot back out even under extreme vibration or if the load rotates, making it the safest choice for permanent installations.
  • G2130 Type: Manufactured to the same dimensions and specifications as the industry-standard G2130 pattern, allowing for easy integration into existing rigging plans.
  • Drop Forged Durability: Both the bow and pin are drop forged and quenched & tempered, offering superior ductility and fatigue resistance compared to cast shackles.
  • Multi-Directional Loading: The rounded "Bow" or "Anchor" shape allows for side-loading (up to 90°) and accommodates multiple sling legs without bunching (unlike Dee shackles).
  • Wide Range: Available from 0.5 Ton up to 150 Ton, suitable for everything from light gear security to heavy offshore lifting.

Why Use an Anchor (Bow) Shape?

Because the body is "O-shaped" (rounded), this shackle is much more versatile than a "Dee" (chain) shackle:

  • Multi-Leg Connections: The wide bow accommodates multiple sling legs without kinking or bunching.
  • Side Loading: It is rated for loading at angles (up to 90°), provided the Working Load Limit (WLL) is reduced.
  • Wider Hooks: The increased internal clearance allows it to fit onto larger crane hooks or heavy-duty pad eyes.

Comparison: Bolt Type vs. Screw Pin

Feature Screw Pin Anchor Shackle Bolt Type Anchor Shackle (This Product)
Ideal Use Quick "pick and place" jobs. Permanent or long-term rigging.
Vibration Pin can vibrate loose over time. Bolt remains secure regardless of vibration.
Installation Fast (can be hand-tightened). Requires tools (wrenches/pliers).
Safety Level High (if checked before every lift). Maximum (industry standard for safety).

Safety Guidelines

Always

  • Store and handle shackles correctly.
  • Inspect shackles before use and before placing into storage.
  • Select the correct pattern of shackle (Dee/Bow) and pin type for the application.
  • Fully tighten the pin before lifting.
  • Ensure the load acts through the centre line of the shackle.
  • Allow for the full resultant imposed load (consider angles).

Never

  • Use shackles with bent pins or deformed bodies.
  • Force, hammer, or wedge shackles into position.
  • Eccentrically load shackles (side loading).
  • Replace the pin with a standard bolt.
  • Fit pins in contact with moving parts which may unscrew them.
  • Shock load shackles.

Selection & Operation Guide

Selecting the Correct Shackle

Type: Use Anchor (Bow) shackles for multi-leg systems or where side loading may occur. Use Chain (Dee) shackles for straight-line pulls.

Pin Type:
Screw Pin: Suitable for general, non-permanent purposes.
Bolt Type (Safety Pin): Essential for long-term installations or where the pin may rotate under load.

⚠️ CAUTION: Loading on the Pin BS and ISO Standard shackles are rated for the pin to accept a central point load. Unless stated otherwise, assume the jaw must be fully filled and the load evenly distributed across the full pin width.

Using Shackles Safely

Avoid Side Loading: Position the shackle so the body takes the load along its center line. Use spacers if necessary to center the load on the pin.

Tightening: Tighten screw pins by hand, then lock with a small bar. Do not overtighten to the point of deforming the body. For bolt types, ensure the split cotter pin is fitted.

Choke Hitches: Place the pin through the eye of the sling. Never place the pin in contact with the "bight" of the choke or moving parts, as friction can unscrew the pin.

Maintenance & Storage

Storage: Store in a clean, dry place protected from corrosion. Never modify or galvanize a shackle without supplier approval.

Inspection: Check regularly for: distorted/stretched bodies, bent pins, damaged threads, nicks, gouges, or corrosion. illegible markings. If any defect is found, refer to a Competent Person.
